Ethiopia has introduced the Construction Industry Transformation Initiative, a bold 25-year strategy to modernize the sector and strengthen its international competitiveness. Deputy Prime Minister Temsegen Tiruneh emphasized the government’s commitment to completing long-delayed infrastructure projects while introducing performance-based assessments and better coordination systems. Urban Development Minister Chaltu Sani also highlighted how the plan addresses systemic issues such as corruption, unemployment, and dependence on imported materials. The initiative ultimately seeks to promote technology-driven practices, empower local contractors to expand globally, and develop a skilled workforce for long-term sustainability, positioning Ethiopia’s construction industry as a competitive player on the global stage.
